Location and transport

Location

Sarah Redfern Public School is conveniently located in a central area, directly across from the local shopping centre, with cross streets including Pembroke Road and Brookfield Road. The main entrance is on Monaghan Street, and there is a rear entrance on Guernsey Avenue. Both entries are accessible during the following gate opening times:

  • Morning: 8:30am – 9:00am

  • Afternoon: 2:45pm – 3:15pm

During school hours (9:00am – 2:45pm), access to the Administration Building is via the Monaghan Street entrance. Please press the gate button and wait for instructions from our office staff.

The school is well-connected by local bus routes, with a bus stop just a short walk away. For families driving, there are drop-off and pick-up zones located near the school, with crossing supervisors present to assist with safe crossing during peak times.

Getting to and from School Safely

At Sarah Redfern Public School, student safety is our top priority. As a parent or carer, it is your responsibility to ensure your child travels to and from school safely each day.

Please help keep our school community safe by:

  • Driving and parking safely – even if this means parking further away and walking part of the way

  • Using pedestrian crossings rather than calling your child across the road

  • Always being a positive role model for safe behaviour

  • Encouraging your child to use the designated crossings

For Parents and Carers with Younger Children

Take the time to discuss and practise the following with your child:

  • Safe walking habits

  • Car safety, including getting in and out safely

  • How to wait for, travel on, and get off the bus safely

  • Riding safely on bikes, scooters, and skateboards

  • Planning safe travel routes to and from school

  • What to do if something unexpected happens

  • How to manage travel in wet weather

Please note: Electronic vehicles, including e-scooters and e-bikes, are not permitted on school grounds.

Subsidised school travel

Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.

  • The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
  • The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.
